I would really like to see CT support the JRC JST-245/145 radios. NA, TR Log, and WriteLog all support JRC radios. CT seems to be the only major contest software that doesn't.

Is there anything I can do to help make this happen in a timely manner?

Unable to get the required Cabrillo format for the ARRL 160 contest. Was able to get it once but never again. Did a full install and updated from the registered users area on the net, still not doing it.

During the CLEAN INSTALL I removed all old files from the drive and used the .bin file from the backup disk.

Tried it on two other computers.

Bug in CQP.DAT file. It incorrectly lists an "NL" multiplier. VO1/VO2 still count as MAR in CQP. Official rules are at http://www.cqp.org/Rules.html.

Also, "SM" is an official abbreviation for "San Mateo," so please add this too.

DESCRIPTION

All following in ARRL 10M Contest:

1. Grab packet spot does not do Check Partial. It should. (I believe this may be typical of more than just ARRL 10.) To check partial the grabbed spot, you have to hit F12 twice.

2. Alt-A window does not properly handle the "other mode." If you start CT, select CW, Alt-T, SH/D/25, you get proper response for CW (ie. CT only puts needed Qs and/or mults in Alt-A), but every packet spot on SSB is put in the window, regardless of whether or not it has been previously worked. The converse is true for SSB.

Also, during operation, when a spot comes in on the "other mode," CT reports it in Alt-A window as a needed mult, regardless of whether or not the spot had been previously worked.

3. Working HI and AK does not turn the Mult from White to Blue in the multiplier window.

More on this: the problem occurs when you break the looop DURING THE PAUSE - if you break it while transmitting, then the timer gets reset back to zero. So in the above example, you have to have aborted a 5 second pause between playbacks in order for there to be time left on the timer.

In the ARRL 10 meter contest, mixed phone/cw operation, for stations you have already worked on one mode, CT automatically fills in the exchange field with either the section or serial number from the previous contact. This is ok for w/ve stations sending sections as an exchange, but not for dx stations sending sending serial numbers as an exchange. In the latter case CT automatically fills in the current received exchange field with the received serial number of the previous contact, automatically putting wrong serial numbers into the current exchange field, possibly adding to logging errors. I suggest that serial numbers not be automatically copied from previous exchanges.

DESCRIPTION

There were several postings over the weekend including one from me saying that "AK" and "HI" didn't show up as worked even after you worked stations in these states. One posting said CT was apparently counting KH6 and KL7 as country multipliers instead of as states. Since the final score would be the same, it didn't seem like a serious problem. Unfortunately, I discovered this morning there is more to it than that. I was going through our log fixing things like KH6DX/M being in W6 and such when I noticed two sets of Alaska and Hawaii multipliers for both CW and SSB. BTW -- if you're new to CT, you can fix almost any callsign/wrong location problem with a "=" command. For example tell CT to consider KH6DX/M to be in W6 by "KH6DX/M=W6".

Apparently, in this contest, the first time you work KH6 or KL7, CT counts it as a country then the second time you work that same state it counts it as a country. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news to all of you like us that worked more than one on each mode. It will cost you a multiplier for each of the two once you correct for the CT glitch in your log.

How to fix it is another story. It will probably vary depending on who you worked. I first did a "RMDUPES". Don't ask me how that helped but it did. But it threw in a few random glitches like counting KN6DFM as Hawaii. So I did a "KN6DFM=W6" to fix that one. I also had to do a "KY7J=KL7", "WH7K=KH6" and "WH6R=KH6" even though we had correctly put in AK and HI for those contacts. But I'm guessing how to fix your log will be somewhat different.

This cost us (KØGY multi-single) 6K points but better to count every vote (er, I mean contact). I'm now looking for hanging chads and intentions to work us in the k0gy.txt file to, hopefully, gain those points back.

I'll turn this in on the CT glitch report at www.k1ea.com for Ken to look at before next year's contest.

SAC Contest: would it be difficult task to make an option to CT that you could run WPX contest mode with DXCC countries as multipliers (not prefixes)? WPX seems to be only contest where in multi-multi class actual band qsonumber is shown in the qso logging line. CQWW etc.contests show total qsos worked all bands in the qso field. So operator does not know what serial number to send :) We could use CT in SAC multi-multi class if: a) WPX mode with DXCC countries as multipliers or b) CQWW or DX Pedition mode has band qso total in the qso line, not total qsos.

In both cases it is very easy to count final score with Excel.

Why SAC and CT? Well, because CT has an excellent network support for MM and MS stations! (Tnx K1TTT)

We used CT 9.51 during CQWW phone and CT 9.53 for CQWW CW at K3II. During these contests I noticed a bug which causes unworked stations to be entered into the log with both versions of the program. In a MM enviroment, if you type the station of the next call and scroll up with the cursor to correct a mistake in a previous contact, if you type ENTER after the correction OR if a contact is received over the network, the unworked station below is logged.

If you could move the cursor back to the callsign field when returning to your run frequency (ALT-F4) it would be nice. I found myself entering the call of the next station in the zone field several times during the contest. This was caused by me grabbing a spot, typing spacebar to check the zone, giving up and going back to my run frequency with ALT-F4. With this sequence the cursor remains in the zone field when you return to the run frequency.

An improvement to CT would be to ignore the contest callsign in zone map so that you are sure to work your zone. We enter the station call when the logged contact is bad or never occured. Sometimes we loose a zone when we strip out the station call from the log post contest.

This occurs in some earlier versions of CT also. An accidental pressing of Alt+F11 (as with wide fingers going for Alt+F10 to increase CW speed) causes a black bar 1 line in height and about 12 characters long to appear just below the active logging line directly below the spaces for callsign. The cursor moves into that bar but cannot be moved out with normal logging keystrokes. At first, before I discovered just what caused the appearance of the black bar, I found that exiting CT (Alt-X, Y)and re-entering would clear the problem with no damage and logging could resume. Since then I tried using the mouse to move the black bar and found that this could severely damage the display of the 5 "logging" lines and make logging impossible although other functions and displays remained "normal". When this happens the ".bin" file is altered and shutting down and restarting is useless. HOWEVER, now that I know that Alt+F11 causes the problem, I have found that it is a "Toggle", so that an additional Alt+F11 clears the display problem immediately and logging can continue directly.

DESCRIPTION

When grabbing packet spots with CT, VFO A gets set to the frequency indicated in the callout, but VFO B is set to some other frequency. I first noticed this during the 2000 ARRL DX contest with whatever version CT that was most current at that time. I did not regularly use packet spotting previous to that, so I don't know if it was a problem with previous versions. I have discussed this with a couple of other 940 owners and at least one TS850 owners. They report similar experiences with CT.

Since I became aware of the problem, I have made an effort to check VFO B when I grab spots and to check the spot to see if there is a split indicated.

I have been testing recently with CT v9.54. In the setup, I chose ARRL DX contest, CW, W/VE side, single op unlimited, low power, TNC on COM 2, rig on COM 3, CW keying on COM 3. I am using a JBI rig interface with CW keying on COM 3. It seems that for CW callouts, VFO A is set to the callout frequency and VFO B is usually set to 14.000MHz, regardless of the frequency of the callout. For phone callouts, VFO B appears to be set to 14.175, when there is no split indicated, regardless of the frequency of the callout. I have noticed that VFO B is sometimes set to a 10 meter frequency, but I cannot remember the frequency nor what the callout frequency was, as it is not consistent. When VFO B is changed by CT, I would "A=B," check that both VFOs were on the same frequency and regrab the same or another callout. VFO B would then reset to 14000 or 14175.

I also use DX4Win v1.12 with the same hardware setup. For testing purposes, I would exit the packet cluster, quit CT, unload the TSR programs, go into DX4Win, reconnect packet, diplay the callouts and grab the same spots that I grabbed in CT. When grabbing the same spots with DX4Win, VFO B is unaffected, unless there is a split indicated. It appears that this is a CT anomaly.

Here is what you do:

start CT with "CT filename.bin " select VHF or VHFS contest enter in some calls "QUIT" re-enter CT with "CT filename.bin" verify that the calls are in the log do a "WRITELOG" do a "QUIT" re-enter CT with "CT filename.bin" verify that no calls are in the log

Do the above, but now use just filename instead of filename.bin

DESCRIPTION

I emailed Jim Riesert about this problem several weeks ago on v951. I just downloaded v957 and the same problem exists plus an additional bug.

The interface between the OMNI VI and ct does not work properly using the ALT F1/ALT F2 keys. Radio band changes are erratic and slow. Frequently the software gets lost and prints out "radio not echoing". If the alt J window is activated frequency is displayed properly and turning the tuning knob removes the error message and the j window frequency readout correctly follows the radio. This interface worked correctly on v945 so an error has been interduced in the later software.

Another interesting thing showed up on v957 when I went into the packet mode, and the local packet node " c xxxxx" where xxxxx is the local node, when I pushed the enter key nothing happened. It appears that the software does not recognized this key. I took the computer out of the CT environment and checked the keyboard. The enter key worked ok. This is a problem new to v957.

Hello Ken, we are asking for many years now to have a contest profile which allows band switching ssb/cw and allows everything as multiplier, so numbers as well as letter combinations. We always modified the DAT file which was working fine. We need this for the PACC contest (from PA side) the second weekend of February. In the past we used the WAE (DX Side) but the change mode option is not available anymore. Also the multipliers worked in the "other" mode then the current are not visible. The last option is less important. Is there anything you can do for us PA guys to make use of CT in the PACC contest as other years.

Hope to hear soon from you. We love to work with CT but we are not married with CT . . .

DESCRIPTION

I recently purchased the latest v. of CT.

There is one part of it that doesn't work which I've just put up with. I need to get it working, as the ARRL DX looms directly ahead.

I've used older versions of CT on my computer and the packet window didn't work at all. I attributed it to not getting the port settings correct. I finally got the packet monitor window to echo the packets through ... sort of. By finally settling on 2400 BAUD, Xon/off flow control (though, it seems to work the same with none), and 7 bits/even/1stop bit, the window will get about 1/3 or so of the characters through. It seems to miss/drop characters for some reason. For example, upon startup or restart, my PK232 spits out several lines, one of them is something like

Advanced Electrontics Apples

but the packet window shows something like

AvndlcncsAps

The above is an example. It seems to drop about 1/2 of every line's characters.

I'm using an IBM PS2 55SX which clocks at 16MHz which I would think would be fast enough, as I can tell the software loops for kestrokes (I think). Anyway, I've tried the VERY IDENTICAL setup with N6TR's TR software and the text gets through the packet window perfectly. I've also tried slowing it down to 1200 ... acts the same.

Charlie K1XX didn't seem to have a soltuion. I can't seem to get through to the reflector.

Would anyone have anythoughts on the problem and its solution?

Thanks!!!!!!!

AA0AI Steve Wessels

Steve

If you use ALT-F during the contest to adjust a time, I believe that there is a documented bug where it will not read the TZ variable and change the time to local time. THen TZ is applied and the time is now off by the TZ. So, if you then do a settime with a time that is time-TZ it would appear that the individual time for that QSO is fixed. But then all subsequent QSO's are wrong, as ALT-F has adjusted the master clock.

I noticed this when the rate meter said that the last 10 rate was 0.0 and the last 100 rate was 83 !!

Have noticed this problem previously but it never caused a problem until now. When logging any portable ("/") station, the F12 key shows BOTH the home call AND the / call highlighted. Apparently CT flags any home call as a dupe independent of the / location. This was highlighted in the ARRL DX CW by working ND5S/FS and ND5S/PJ7 the same weekend (he moved during the contest). CT counted the multipliers correctly, but it counted the second call as a DUPE with no QSO points assigned. Until now I viewed this simply as one of CT's quirks but it may need to be addressed.

VFO B is loaded with erroneous data whenever a bandmap/packet radio callout point-and-shoot is performed making it useless as a quick memory. The Ctrl-F9 displays are referenced to the start of the contest, not the start of your operation. DESCRIPTION

I tried to operate SO unassisted, yet connect to packet to send spots out for the club.

One apparently has no access to the packet window (Send OR Receive). This means I had no way to type the "connect" command from within CT. The workaround is obviously to restart CT and use, Single-Op-Assisted, send the connect command and the restart CT as Single-Op-Unassisted.

CT should allow "Talk" to work, just not "receive" when in single-op mode.

2-Radios ========= My desire would be to use two radios hooked on e.g. CT. I would like to have Radio 2 only as a receiver. New (No2) paddle would swap automaticly the Radio2 and Radio1 frequencies when going on transmit (+ PTT on Radio1, which is not the problem). After paddle release the frequencies would swap back again to original state. We have one digital input which at ON event makes one swap and at OFF event another swap. As far as Help shows this is not happening in 2R mode now - I do not have the manual.

Would it be possible to incorporate my idea in one of the next CT versions? I would make this addition myself, but I understand that you are not giving the code away.

This is a feature request.

Since many VHF radios are actually transverters, it would be nice to have an offset feature in CT so that the IF radio can be controlled by CT. The option could be a command line option that allow the user to type OFFSET in the QSO window for each band. If you were using a 1296 transverter with an IF of say, 14M, you would then type 1282. Any command sent from CT would subtract 1282MHz and send 14 to the radio, and any radio input would have 1282 added to it.

The BandMap feature needs to have more control over when the 'spots' timeout. I generally enter in the SO-LP category, so I'm often stuck with S&Ping. I would prefer that the 'spots' timeout in 3 hours rather than the hard-coded 1 hour.

For those connected this is not an issue as the BandMap is constantly updated from the spots. For those who are SO and S&Ping it is nice to keep the old 'spots' as too many stations seem to be afraid to give their calls during the contest.

A logging line VARIABLE - BandMapTime would do the trick.

Hi, We worked in all multi-multi contests with an old version CT 8.42. We also participate in the IOTA contest every year. Now, because 8.42 doesn't have IOTA file and a lot more, we now have 9.53 since a week. I thought this was the latest version ???? Seems to be not !!? But anu way, our BUG:

IOTA contest is with 2 radio's. ! running and 1 multiplier. Logging is ok. But...in the old CT, we closed the programme on one PC and stayed logging on the other. When we started up the closed PC, the prograame on that one updated all made QSO's from the second PC....a kind of backup protection to not lose any data. In CT 9.53 that doesn't happen....there is NO update made. So numbering is totally gone ofcourse. The numbering doesn't match anymore. While one PC is on 100, the other is still on 55 or so...the number when the programme was closed.

PA6TEX used SD first..but has no network facility. CT8.42 worked PERFECT, but hasn't IOTA file. What is wrong in 9.53 ?? This can cost us MUCH points !!

This means after the contest we have to calculate it all again. That was NOT want we wanted to get from CT. We wished we had a good contest program..

The second thing I see is that a 286 machine is not good enough anymore..is this correct.??

The third bug is ofcourse the one I mentioned before..no auto update after restarting the programme on the multiplierstation after a shut down..and I mean power off..8.42 gave no problems..

No bugs. I LIKE CT!!!! Just wanted to let you know, if you hadn't seen it already there was a press release from TR and CSS software who do a windows logging program.

They announced a collaborative effort to develop and support a logging program and contest program under Windows.

I just wondered if now would be the time that Ken might want to collaborate or work on a windows version of CT. I know the DOS version works great I LOVE MINE!.. but the handwriting is on the wall.

Those other two programs (besides CT and NA) seem to be the two most popular programs. With them deciding to do a windows version, it would seem that CT needs to look seriously at it in order to keep from dropping behind and becoming 2nd class because of beingin DOS only.

Personally.. I find CT does all I need and more. I am happy with DOS, believe me.. but as they say.. Progress moves ahead regardless of what we like.

Just a thought. NOT A PICK, A REQUEST, OR anything like that.

just one satisfied CT user's comments.
